Academic Editing, Writing and Research Support FAQs
EditPi answers common questions from researchers, clinicians, PhD scholars and research teams about academic editing, scientific writing, evidence reviews, data analysis, manuscript verification and journal submission. The exact work, deliverables, price and timeline are confirmed in a written quote after we review your project.
Getting started and pricing
1. What services does EditPi provide?
EditPi provides human-led academic editing, scientific manuscript writing, evidence synthesis, thesis and grant proposal support, research data analysis, citation and reference checking, manuscript evidence audits, AI-use and similarity review, and journal submission support. We match the work to relevant subject and method expertise and confirm the scope before starting. Explore academic editing, writing and data analysis.
2. How do I request a quote from EditPi?
Send your project details, including the service you need, current stage, subject, available files and deadline. For editing, an approximate editable word count helps. For analysis or a review, explain the research question and materials already available. EditPi will recommend a scope and provide a written price and timeline.
3. How much do academic editing and manuscript writing cost?
Editing and manuscript writing have published starting rates. The final fee depends on the editable word count, condition of the draft, subject, requested checks, submission files and turnaround. Data analysis, evidence synthesis, verification and multi-stage projects are quoted after reviewing their requirements. See EditPi pricing or request a written quote.
4. Can I ask for help before my manuscript or dataset is complete?
Yes. You can enquire at the planning, data, partial-draft, complete-draft or revision stage. Tell us what you have and what decisions are still open. We can identify the work that can be undertaken now and the materials needed before a full quote or analysis is confirmed.
5. Are my manuscript and research files handled confidentially?
EditPi limits project-file access to the people assigned to the agreed work and handles files under its confidentiality terms. You can ask about an NDA before sharing materials. For human or clinical datasets, remove direct personal identifiers before uploading unless a separate secure arrangement has been agreed. Read the Privacy Policy.
6. Will a PhD-qualified expert work on my project?
EditPi matches projects by subject area, document type and required method or editing depth. PhD-qualified editors and relevant research specialists undertake the agreed work, with a quality check where included in the quote. The exact expertise, checks and deliverables are defined for each project.
Academic editing and scientific writing
7. What is the difference between copy editing, substantive editing and advanced editing?
Copy editing improves sentence-level language, terminology and consistency. Substantive editing also improves paragraph flow, coherence and organization. Advanced editing adds deeper subject-aware review and submission-readiness work within the agreed scope. Compare the editing levels and share your draft if you are unsure which one fits.
8. What types of documents can EditPi edit?
EditPi works on original research articles, review papers, case reports, theses, dissertations, grant and research proposals, conference papers, book chapters, revised manuscripts and responses to reviewers. The edit can focus on language, structure, presentation or selected publication requirements, depending on the document and quote.
9. Will editing change my research meaning or results?
No. The editor works to improve clarity and presentation while preserving the author’s intended methods, results and conclusions. If a scientific point is unclear or appears inconsistent, EditPi raises a query for author review rather than inventing a result or making an unsupported change.
10. What files do I receive after academic editing?
The agreed deliverables commonly include a manuscript with Track Changes, a clean file and editor comments where clarification is needed. Journal formatting, reference validation, cover letters, AI or similarity review and further submission files are included only when specified in the written quote.
11. Can EditPi prepare a journal manuscript from my research materials?
Yes. EditPi can develop or strengthen a manuscript using your approved study design, data, analysis, tables, figures, protocol, thesis or partial draft. The team can support the abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion and agreed submission files. Authors review and approve the scientific claims and final text. See manuscript writing support.
12. Can you convert thesis research into a journal article?
Yes. EditPi can help select a suitable study or finding from a completed thesis and develop a focused journal manuscript using the approved research materials. The work may require a new article structure, shorter methods and results, updated discussion and target-journal checks. Journal fit and word limits are assessed before the final scope is confirmed.
13. Do you help with literature reviews and relevant citations?
Yes. EditPi can improve the organization and critical synthesis of a literature review and identify sources needed to support particular statements. Recent studies are considered where relevant, but important foundational research should not be replaced merely because it is older. Source selection and claim-to-source checking depend on the agreed scope.
Evidence reviews, theses and grants
14. Does EditPi support systematic reviews and meta-analyses?
Yes. Support may cover the review question, protocol, search documentation, screening, extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, synthesis, meta-analysis, reporting and manuscript writing. These are separate tasks: database searching, dual screening and statistical pooling are included only if named in the quote. The review method and reporting guidance are matched to the question and review type. Explore evidence-review support.
15. Can EditPi help with a scoping, rapid, umbrella or narrative review?
Yes. EditPi can help define the question and scope, organize the literature and report the chosen method transparently. A scoping or rapid review, umbrella review and narrative review answer different questions and do not automatically include meta-analysis. We review your current stage and recommend the work that fits the project.
16. Is a meta-analysis possible for every systematic review?
No. Quantitative pooling depends on the eligible studies, comparable outcomes, available statistics and defensible effect measure. EditPi can assess the extracted data and explain whether a meta-analysis is appropriate. If pooling is unsuitable, a structured narrative synthesis may be more accurate.
17. What thesis and dissertation support does EditPi offer?
EditPi supports chapter planning, literature synthesis, editing, methods and results presentation, citations, university formatting and supervisor-comment revisions using the student’s own research and approved materials. The permitted level of assistance depends on the university’s rules. The student remains responsible for authorship, research decisions and final submission. See academic writing support.
18. Can EditPi help with a grant proposal?
Yes. EditPi can refine an existing proposal or develop agreed sections from the investigator’s approved concept, preliminary evidence and team information. Share the funder, current call link, deadline, template, page limits and draft or outline. The principal investigator and institution approve the scientific plan and submission.
Research data analysis
19. What research data analysis services does EditPi provide?
EditPi supports analysis planning, data preparation, statistical comparisons and modelling, tables, figures, methods and results reporting. The methods depend on the research question, study design, data structure, sample size and missingness. The written quote specifies the checks, software and output files. Explore data analysis services.
20. Can EditPi analyze a raw dataset for a thesis or manuscript?
Yes, when the data and documentation are sufficient for an agreed analysis. Send a de-identified dataset, data dictionary or variable definitions, study design, research questions and any existing protocol or output. EditPi first checks what the files can support and raises essential data questions before confirming the methods and price.
21. What is a Data Analysis Readiness Assessment?
It is a review of the research question, study design, variable definitions, file structure and data-quality questions before full analysis. It can produce a scope note and list of questions for the investigator. Data cleaning, statistical modelling and manuscript writing are separate tasks unless the quote includes them.
22. Does EditPi support clinical and epidemiological studies?
Yes. Depending on the study design and data, support may include descriptive analysis, group comparisons, regression, diagnostic accuracy, repeated measures or survival analysis. The team defines outcomes, groups, time points and planned covariates before analysis. Share only data you are authorized to provide, with direct personal identifiers removed.
23. Can EditPi analyze HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, spectroscopy or omics data?
EditPi can assess laboratory and instrument-generated data, including suitable chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, microscopy and omics outputs. Feasibility depends on raw or processed file formats, sample metadata, experimental design and quality-control information. A feature annotation or statistical association is not automatically proof of compound identity or biological mechanism.
24. What will I receive from a data analysis project?
The agreed outputs may include an analysis plan, data-query log, cleaned or analysis-ready data, code or software output, tables, figures, and methods or results text. Not every output is included in every project. The quote lists the exact files, software, checks, interpretation work and revision terms.
Manuscript evidence and research integrity
25. What is EditPi’s Manuscript Evidence Audit?
It is a scoped check of evidence-related issues in a manuscript before submission. Depending on the selected depth, EditPi can check reference existence and DOI details, compare claims with supplied sources, compare numbers across text, tables and figures, or review target-journal requirements. The deliverable is a findings log separating confirmed corrections from questions for the author.
26. Can EditPi verify every citation and scientific claim?
The depth of verification depends on the files, available source articles and agreed scope. EditPi can check citation-to-reference matching, DOI details, selected claim-to-source relationships and source relevance. A formatting check alone does not verify every scientific claim. The quote should identify whether a full audit, a sample or selected checks are included.
27. Can EditPi identify fabricated, duplicate or incorrect references?
Yes. Within an agreed citation audit, EditPi can check whether references exist, review bibliographic and DOI details, identify duplicates or incomplete entries, and flag sources that do not support the cited claim. Unverifiable or ambiguous items are returned to the author for a decision rather than silently replaced.
28. What is the difference between citation formatting and claim-to-source checking?
Citation formatting makes in-text citations and reference entries follow a required style. Claim-to-source checking examines whether the cited article actually supports a statement in the manuscript. These have different workloads and should be requested separately if you need both.
29. Can EditPi check that results agree across the manuscript, tables and figures?
Yes, as part of an agreed numerical-consistency or evidence-audit scope. EditPi can compare reported sample sizes, denominators, percentages, estimates, labels and conclusions against the materials provided. If the underlying dataset or analysis files are unavailable, the check is limited to the supplied documents and cannot independently validate the results.
AI use, similarity and originality
30. What does EditPi’s AI compliance service include?
The service can include review of the target journal’s AI-use instructions, accurate disclosure wording, human revision of unclear or mechanical text, similarity-match review, citation validation and checks for unsupported claims. The exact tasks depend on the manuscript and quote. EditPi does not certify that a manuscript complies with every journal policy. See AI compliance services.
31. Can EditPi provide Turnitin, iThenticate or AI-detection reports?
Report availability depends on the tool, eligible document type, access and the service agreed in the quote. Tell EditPi which report you need before ordering. A similarity report identifies text matches; an AI-detection result is an uncertain screening signal and does not establish authorship or misconduct by itself.
32. Does EditPi guarantee a particular AI-detection or similarity score?
No. Scores can differ by tool, settings, database and document version, and journals do not share one universal threshold. EditPi focuses on accurate, original writing, appropriate citation, transparent disclosure where required and human review. We do not promise 0%, below 20% or acceptance by a detector or journal.
33. How does EditPi address similarity in a manuscript?
EditPi reviews the matched passages and their context, then applies appropriate human rewriting, quotation or citation correction while preserving technical meaning and valid attribution. A high match percentage is not automatically plagiarism; references, standard methods language and properly quoted text may contribute to the report.
34. Can EditPi revise AI-assisted writing ethically?
Yes. Human editors can improve generic, repetitive or unclear wording and check that claims, references and numbers align with the author’s source materials. The author remains responsible for disclosing AI use when required and approving the final manuscript. The aim is accurate academic communication, not concealment of authorship or evasion of a detector.
Journal submission and institutions
35. Does EditPi format a manuscript for a target journal?
Yes. When included in the quote, EditPi can check the journal’s author instructions and prepare the title page, manuscript structure, abstract, references, tables, figures, declarations and submission files as applicable. Share the journal name or author-guidelines link and the article type. Explore publication support.
36. Can EditPi help select a journal?
Yes. EditPi can prepare a reasoned shortlist based on the paper’s topic, article type, methods, journal scope, indexing preference, publication model, fees and current author instructions. Journal indexing, fees and requirements should be verified at the time of selection. The author makes the final choice.
37. Can EditPi prepare a cover letter and response to reviewers?
Yes. EditPi can draft a journal-specific cover letter and help prepare a polite, point-by-point reply to editor and reviewer comments. The revised manuscript and response letter are checked for consistency within the agreed scope. Authors approve scientific explanations, new analyses and any disagreement with reviewers.
38. Can EditPi help after desk rejection?
Yes. EditPi can review the editor’s decision, journal fit and the supplied manuscript, then recommend a scoped revision or a more suitable journal. Language, structure, reporting and submission issues may be addressed, but a desk rejection can also reflect editorial priorities or study limitations that editing cannot resolve.
39. Does EditPi guarantee journal acceptance, indexing or publication?
No. Editors and reviewers decide whether a paper is sent for review, accepted and published. EditPi can improve the agreed aspects of a manuscript and its submission files, but cannot guarantee acceptance, a particular journal, indexing outcome or publication date.
40. Does EditPi work with universities, hospitals and research teams?
Yes. EditPi can discuss coordinated editing, analysis, review methods, verification and submission support across multiple projects. Share your organization, disciplines, approximate workload, timelines and confidentiality or procurement requirements. A written arrangement defines the work, expert matching, deliverables and terms.
